LOITERING IN THE NARTHEX

A young man said, “I am a Satanist.  I worship the evil one of whom the Bible speaks.”

The Gadfly said, “You are a Christian.  You worship the freedom to rebel against a tradition, which you have confused with your parents’ control.  Yet bound to the apron strings of that tradition you remain.  Hear me, O reluctant servant of Christianity.  I know a name more powerful than Satan.  It is a name that strikes terror into the hearts of the priests of contrived faith.  It is a name full of dignity and good.  It is a name so full of sacred value that the robed merchants of righteousness must slander it at all costs, lest the wares they sell are found to be without an exclusive copyright.   The young man said, “Tell me what this name is.”  The Gadfly replied, “The name is human.”
