Sayings of a Gadfly

FOR ART’S SAKE

A minister said, "If you do not believe every word of the Bible you are not a Christian.”

The Gadfly said, “The tongue can be taught to sing any song.  But the spirit is more than words.  And life is larger than the boxes you would place it in.  Is your brother an alien because he is not your mirror?  Will you deny your sister because her voice can rise higher than your dreams, and her lyrics tie your tongue into knots?  Is it your religion to apply your paints and color the difference between the Christian and the Hindu smile?  Is it your piety to take a marker and draw the line between the Atheist and the Christian tear?  Do not grasp at your own image with desperate hands, nor should you grumble with resentment if you chance upon a singing diva.  Learn what it means to live your faith in spirit and truth, lest at the end of your days you discover that your religion has been an act of vandalism, and your piety a graffiti upon the masterwork of life."
